The EFFECTIVENESS OF ANIMATION MOVIE IN IMPROVING THE WRITING SKILL IN NARRATIVE TEXT OF THE SECOND GRADE STUDENTS OF SMA NEGERI 1 SUNGGUMINASA

Objective: This research aims to find out whether the use of animation movie improves the student’s ability in writing narrative text. Method: This research applied pre-experimental research design which administered writing test consists of pretest and posttest to collect data from 20 samples chosen from 60 populations. Sample was chosen by applying purposive sampling technique. Result: The result of this research shows that the second-grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Sungguminasa get mean score in the pretest 50.05; while their posttests mean score after giving treatment by using picture is 73.30. Conclusion: Based on the result of data analysis, the researcher concludes that the use of animation movie is effective and significant in improving students’ writing skill especially in writing narrative text at SMA Negeri 1 Sungguminasa. It can be seen by the mean score in posttest is higher than mean score in pretest and the students’ scoring based on the five components; content, organization, vocabulary, language use and mechanics. Not only that but also the data were analyzed by using t-test, t-test value is 4.11 with the value of probability 0.000. Thus, the value of probability is lower than (p) 0.05. In other words, the null hypothesis H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted. Suggestion: It is suggested for the English teacher to utilize this media in teaching and learning activities.
